WOODS LANDING — A wildfire in southwest Albany County burned previously unburned terrain within its perimeter, and firefighters had it 10 percent contained Wednesday.
The fire has burned an estimated 900 acres of mixed conifer and grass south of Lake Owen on public and private land since it was started by lightning Sunday night.
Lake Owen, its campground and area forest roads will remain closed to the public through this weekend, said fire spokeswoman Laura McConnell.
There are nine residences and 35 outbuildings in the vicinity of the fire, but no structures have burned, McConnell said.
There were 266 personnel fighting the fire. More firefighters and equipment were sought, but other wildfires throughout the West were stretching resources thin, McConnell said.
