POWELL - Nearly half of all college-bound high school graduates in the Big Horn Basin are attending Northwest College this fall.
And of the Big Horn Basin graduates attending one of Wyoming's seven community colleges, 88 percent are attending school in Powell, said Brad Hammond, coordinator of prospective students and on-campus activities.
"We've been really focused on the Big Horn Basin area," he told college trustees Monday. "And it seems to be paying off."
On a percentage basis, Rocky Mountain High School sent the most students to Northwest College: 20 of its 24 college-bound seniors.
Of the 34 college-bound graduates of Lovell High School, 26 went on to Northwest College, just 21 miles away. And out of the 93 college-bound graduates of Powell High School, 66 enrolled at the local college.
