CODY — The Park County Clerk's Office will no longer allow free online access to county property records.
Park County Commission last week voted to charge a $100 annual fee to access records such as deeds, mortgages and liens on the Internet. The county won't charge for people who come to the clerk's office to inspect the records.
Some real estate professionals, bankers and others who use the county's Internet site protested that the information should be available for free.
County Information Technology head Mike Conners said the Internet system costs the county $3,500 a year. Some county commissioners said county taxpayers shouldn't have to subsidize those businesses that use the online system.
