CHEYENNE, Wyo. — People who live near a Cheyenne oil refinery are upset after the facility released an ash-like powder that they say clouded the air and settled on their property.
The powder was released from the HollyFrontier refinery Friday.
Refinery officials said the powder can be an irritant but can be swept up and discarded safely. They say the material is a catalyst used in the refining process and was released inadvertently.
Dawn Warner says she and her husband left their windows open when they were away Friday and the powder got into their house. Warner says she and her husband have both felt ill since then.
Lyn Vredenburg, who also lives near the refinery, says she's been coughing since the release.
