RAWLINS, Wyo. — A prescribed burn covering more than 10 square miles could take place as soon as Monday in the Seminoe Mountains on the west side of Seminoe Reservoir.
The burn at Marking Pen Creek is part of a larger fire project area. Prescribed burns are planned in the area over a 10-year period.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management says the burn will eliminate potential fuel for wildfires while creating natural firebreaks. The BLM also says fire will rejuvenate aspen communities.
The area in the Seminoe Mountains is popular with hunters and includes crucial winter range for antelope, elk, mule deer and bighorn sheep.
