RIVERTON — A federal report said the Wind River Indian Reservation’s adult jail hit a peak inmate population of nearly twice its limit in June 2008.

The U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics released a report this week on Indian country jails. It listed the Wind River Adult Detention Center as one of 18 holding facilities that operated at more than 150 percent of their capacity during their peak in June last year. The Fort Washakie jail had a peak inmate population of 51, putting the facility at 196 percent of its rated capacity of 26 inmates.
