SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Quality Child Care Initiative says about $15,000 has been embezzled from it.
The private non-profit organization operates the Hand-in-Hand Early Childhood Center.
The organization's board of directors said in a written statement Friday that it started investigating financial irregularities about a month ago.

Based on preliminary findings, the board said, it has reported a criminal claim to police concerning a former employee of the center who was fired recently. It also submitted a claim to its insurance carrier. The organization says it wouldn't be appropriate to comment further due to an ongoing investigation.
The organization says it appears all tuition paid by families appears to have been properly credited and deposited and that the center remains on "firm financial footing."
