BUFFALO — The Bureau of Land Management's Buffalo Field Office is planning to burn slash piles this spring in two areas: Billy Creek and Powder River Properties.
The Billy Creek site is 25 miles west of Buffalo off Hazelton Road on Highway 16. The area includes slash piles from 50 acres of healthy fuels and forestry activities. The goal of the project is to reduce hazardous fuels by removing standing dead limber pine that was killed by a blister rust infection.
The Powder River Properties site includes slash piles from two acres of healthy fuels and forestry activities. This area is 35 miles west of Buffalo off Hazelton Road and Upper Doyle Creek Road. These piles are the remnants of a logging contract that was designed to improve big game habitat by reducing encroachment of certain species into meadows.
Burning is scheduled through April 15. All prescribed burn projects will be conducted in accordance with approved burn plans when favorable weather, smoke dispersal and fuel conditions permit.
