CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Wyoming State Treasurer Joe Meyer will undergo cancer surgery in Colorado this week and says he plans to return to work in a month.
Meyer has been receiving treatment since he was first diagnosed with lung cancer in late 2009.
Meyer's office announced on Wednesday that he will undergo surgery at Colorado University Hospital in Aurora, Colo., on Thursday to remove what it called a "cancer deposit" from his brain.
Meyer says in a prepared statement that he has great respect for the medical professionals who are treating him and says he looks forward to being back at work in a month.
Meyer is a former Wyoming attorney general and former Wyoming secretary of state. He is a close friend of former Vice President Dick Cheney.
