CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Cover your tracks: It's the first rule to follow to succeed as a burglar.

Police say they arrested two 17-year-old boys after an officer followed their footprints in Cheyenne.

Around 4 a.m. Sunday, an officer spotted a youth standing outside a car. The youth was gone by the time the officer closed in, but police say two sets of footprints in the snow provided a vital clue.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports the footprints led to another car that had been burglarized. From there, the tracks went to an all-night restaurant.

Police say they caught up with the youths at the restaurant. They say the boys' shoe treads matched the tracks in the snow.

Items recovered included GPS units, sunglasses and cosmetics.
