ROCK SPRINGS — The two Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers involved in a shootout with a man on Interstate 80 last month have returned to duty.

Troopers Adam Davies and Carla Nichols had been placed on administrative leave while the state Division of Criminal Investigation investigated the incident, according to the patrol.

Gary Loyd, 70, of Albuquerque, N.M., was shot to death May 26 by troopers after motorists reported a man driving 100 mph, ramming vehicles and shooting at other drivers about 25 miles west of Green River, the patrol said. Loyd also fired on Davies and Nichols, it said.
