CASPER, Wyo. — Two people died in a crash on Highway 220 near Pathfinder Reservoir early Wednesday morning.

Two tractor-trailers collided head-on about 6:30 a.m., said Darin Pepple, assistant fire chief for the Natrona County Fire Protection District. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway was closed for much of the day for investigation and cleaning. It reopened in the afternoon.

Authorities identified the drivers but were still contacting next of kin Wednesday evening, said Wyoming Highway Patrol Lt. Chris Schell. Both drivers were men.

Workers had to move the trucks off the highway and cut into the vehicles to look for IDs.

It appears one of the semis drifted into the wrong lane, causing the head-on crash, Schell said. Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. The driver may have been fatigued or distracted, Schell said.

The road was straight and conditions were dry and not too windy, Schell said.

He said the semi that crossed into the wrong lane was a B&R Oil Service vehicle. The other semi belonged to Marten Transport.
