CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Laramie police say a University of Wyoming associate professor died in a snowstorm.
Police Department spokesman Mitchell Cushman says the body of Margaret Zamudio was found Saturday in a snowdrift outside her home in Laramie. Zamudio was 45 and a professor in the sociology department.
Zamudio was found wearing a coat and boots. Investigators speculate that she may have slipped and hit her head and that blowing snow immediately covered her body.
Zamudio received her doctorate from UCLA in 1996. Her research focused on immigration, labor, race, class and gender.
University President Tom Buchanan says the university community is saddened by Zamudio's death and will miss her and her contributions to the university.
