CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Eight Wyoming Army National Guard soldiers are being deployed to Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba.
The soldiers from the 197th Public Affairs Detachment are scheduled to leave this weekend. A ceremony is to be held Saturday afternoon at the Casper armory.
The unit is scheduled for a 12-month deployment. They will undergo training at Fort Bliss, Texas, followed by 11 months in Cuba.
Their mission is to support the U.S. Southern Command public affairs office.
The soldiers come from Byron, Casper, Laramie, Pine Bluffs, and Oakley, Utah.
