I'd like to shove a little garbage talk in alongside Dave Mumford's.
Yesterday, I headed to the alley with a couple bags of kitchen garbage, got to the back gate and was dumbfounded to find about a 2-1/2- or 3-foot high berm of snow had been bladed up all along our side of the alley, with no exception for landowner's exits to the alley!
After finally working my mid-80's body through about 45 minutes of breaking up blocks of hardened snow, I was able to get far enough into the alley to see that it was, indeed, worked over exactly the same as our city streets are plowed (except in those cases they have the courtesy to lift the blade at homeowner's driveways).
I have tried countless times to get the city to do something about the ruts and deep standing water and mud in our alley and have received no response; yet without asking for it I and my neighbors get walled off from access to the alley when we need to get rid of our garbage
There could be an alternative if this practice continues, and the ugly result is garbage dumped in the street. But hey, bad as that sounds, doesn't it fit right in with Mumford's long term plans?
