The 6-mill levy has been consistently upheld by Montanans for 70 years. This isn’t surprising, because the goal of the 6-mill levy is to keep the cost of higher education more affordable in Montana.
As a high school student, I am beginning to look into attending universities and one of the biggest things on my mind is how I’ll afford it. Something that has consistently appealed to me about the Montana University System is that it’s committed to motivating students to pursue their academic interests by keeping costs low. The 6-mill levy directly impacts students, by putting all the money towards funding purely academic programs.
The 6-mill levy has been continually voted for every time it comes up on the ballot, and yet we still put resources towards encouraging people to vote for it. Instead, let’s vote one last time to keep higher education affordable in Montana by voting for the 6-Mill Levy-Ending the Sunset. This bill would preserve the levy and make it permanent, which would showcase our commitment to students. The levy is not a new tax nor is it a tax increase.
As a part of our dedication to students in Montana’s University System, let’s encourage our legislators to pass the 6 Mill Levy-Ending the Sunset.
