Here we go again with legislators in various states and governors of those states demanding pregnant women carry every pregnancy to term — or else.

There is a darker side than abortion to a Supreme Court decision if abortions are ever illegal again. Within my own memory, teenage girls have been forcibly sterilized to prevent motherhood because state officials determined the victims were too mentally retarded (in the words of the officials) and therefore not suitable mothers. This was a government decision, not the decision of the victims of sterilization.

If the government can force you to carry a pregnancy to term, it can also force you to not carry a pregnancy to term. This can happen again if Roe vs. Wade is ever overturned. You think that can’t happen again? The government giveth and taketh away.
