The term "fake news" has unfortunately been in abundant use since it was made prominent not so many years ago by Trump. It is a disturbing term to me because it suggests that most news is false and that the user of the term is beholden with the "real truth" while the rest of us peasants are in the dark about issues or concepts or developments in the political, economic, technical and social scenes. To maintain that one is the holder of absolute truth is to suggest that he/she is god-like in their knowledge and awareness. This should make us at least skeptical concerning their claims since all human beings are rife with imperfections.
I prefer the scientific method as a gateway to truth although I maintain an adherence to the Christian faith. I realize that the latter cannot be proven scientifically as of yet. Therefore, I believe other religious faiths deserve to be respected as of equal value. I also do not believe that the scientific method should be worshipped as the only sacred avenue to truth. But the value of science is that its experiments produce results which if carried out with integrity are results which I can point to as appearing to be true or at least strongly suggestive of truth.
I am tired of Trump's elevation of himself above all other sources of news and information as the holder of absolute truth — "buyer beware."
