The Gazette editorial board opinion "If buying Colstrip 4 is such a good deal... " (March 31), as usual all the hype with little or no actual fact to support a claim. As a resident of Colstrip, worker and business owner I find the editorial very patronizing. The Gazette has repeatedly printed every negative letter about Colstrip, the plants, the mine, the surrounding mines and printed every article, op-ed or hit piece written by not only its own journalists, but every environmental group under the sun. Then in today's piece states that it is "concerned" about the residents and what happens to the town of Colstrip. Nonsense, if you really cared about our community you would actually make your journalists do factual research before they printed a majority of their hit pieces about Colstrip. When Colstrip 1 and 2 close in 2022 the only large, reliable source of generation in the entire state will be Colstrip 3 and 4, and if NorthWestern Energy wants to shore up their only source of reliable generation in the state when its 21 below zero and the wind is not available and spot market prices are insane, then good for them, and good for Montana consumers. HB331 is the way to make that happen. Wind does not generate at minus 20F for self-protection reasons and hydro is at an all-time low in the middle of winter. One only needs to research what happened in January and February of this year to know how close to brown we were.
