I am an analytical chemist who has studied climate science in grad school at MSU from 1996. In his reply to my letter to him, Rep. Greg Gianforte responded with this statement: "The climate has been changing for millennia. Over the last few decades the Earth has been getting warmer. While the climate is changing, we still do not know how much of that change is due to human activities." This is a denial of the most important scientific work to our future as a stable society. Climate change is not even considered to be an issue in the election by Rep. Gianforte.
Kathleen Williams does include it as an important issue on the issues page of her website. She is correct to do so, because climate change is occurring faster every year as we emit more greenhouse gases per capita than any other nation in the world, and China isn't even close to catching up to our rate of emissions. We should be leaders in the effort to work internationally to protect the planet from extremely dangerous warming but we are the worst abusers on the planet under Trump. Williams understands this and supports the U.S. reentry into the Paris agreement to keep global average temperature increases below 2 degrees Celsius by beginning to follow the Obama administration programs that have now been eliminated by the Trump administration to control U.S. emissions of greenhouse gases.
Williams is taking a bold position while Rep. Gianforte denies the best valid science to date.
