As an Independent, I expect our elected officials and especially the heads of agencies, to honor their oaths to defend the Constitution and work to best serve America. Therefore, I am troubled by the actions of so many Republicans who seem bent on protecting Trump, rather than serving their constituents. Here are a few examples: Why are Republicans fighting so hard to prevent the Mueller report from being released? Why do they fight to prevent Congress from seeing Trump’s tax returns? Russia has clearly been an enemy of the U.S. since the end of WWII.
And why do Republican Senators (like Steve Daines) look the other way when Trump nominates “political lackeys” to head important government agencies? Trump’s two recent nominations to serve on the Federal Reserve Board lack any educational training in monetary economics. It is critical that the Fed remain pure from political influence. Cain and Moore, two of Trump’s buddies, were obviously nominated for political reasons given their lack of qualifications. Examples of what can happen when politicians control a nation’s money supply abound, from Argentina to Venezuela to Germany in the 1920s. All of these nations suffered hyperinflation.
And do we really want an oil and gas baron such as Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Interior regulating our public lands? I call on our junior senator Daines to put Montana and America ahead of “King Trump” and to vote against these terrible nominations.
