Letter to the editor: Anti-abortion bill could kill me

Pregnancy can be extremely dangerous for some people like me with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. A pregnancy could kill me and a fetus would not survive to viability. If I were to become pregnant despite the use of multiple forms of contraception, I would need an abortion to save my life.

Denying me an abortion would be the exact opposite of pro-life. House Bill 337 would give a fertilized egg all of the same constitutional rights as you and I have as Montanans. This bill would take away any access to safe abortion which could mean difference between life and death for me. It would also potentially ban common forms of birth control or in-vitro fertilization.

It’s already too much of a tragedy that my husband and I can’t have the children we would have loved unconditionally. Denying me life-saving medical care would be a completely unnecessary additional tragedy. I urge Montanans to contact their legislators and ask them to oppose HB 337 and other bills that would put people like me in danger.
