I read the "Ask Mr. Dad" column today and was reminded that the promotion of female equality still has hard work left to do.
The author argues that only a "tiny minority" of men treat women disrespectfully. That's like saying that only a "tiny minority" of Southerners belonged to the Ku Klux Klan and that it is bigoted to say that the general culture of the South had anything to do with Jim Crow.
Mistreatment, oppression and exploitation of women is not coded on the Y chromosome, but it will continue as long as our culture continues to normalize it. Patriarchy will continue to infect our culture as long as people feel comfortable referring to fair treatment of half our population as "political correctness."
