While we are honor our own mothers today, I take a second to consider that there are hundreds of thousands of mama dogs trapped in puppy mills in this country. These dogs never get out of their cages. They never get to sleep on soft beds, and they never find their forever families — unlike their puppies. The puppies are taken away too young and are shipped to pet stores in different parts of the U.S., or sold on websites that promise you a next-day pet. These puppies often have genetic issues or an illness they caught from the puppy mill, and require extensive vet care.
This Mother’s Day we are asking you to take a stand against the cruel puppy mill industry; don’t buy a puppy without meeting the parents. Instead, always demand #ShowMeTheMommy and meet the parents before you take home a pet. If you see something that you aren’t OK with, run, don’t walk, the other way and report what you saw. By following these simple guidelines, you will help countless puppy mill parents around the country.
There are thousands of homeless animals needing a forever family, please consider adoption as your first option. A great adoption site is petfinder.com. There’s no better way to honor Mom than by saving a life.
