Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area has set its schedule for free guided kayaking trips this summer on Bighorn Reservoir.
The programs will cover proper paddling techniques, self-recovery of a capsized kayak, general safety precautions and fun facts about Bighorn Canyon presented by park rangers.
These excursions will be offered free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis for 10 participants. Up to five additional kayakers with their own equipment are welcome to join. All participants must call ahead and register with Bighorn Canyon NRA.
To register for programs on the South District call the Bighorn Canyon NRA Visitor Center at 307-548-5406. To register for programs on the North District call the Yellowtail Dam Visitor Center at 406-666-3218.
All trips are subject to cancellation at the guide’s discretion. Registered participants will be informed if there is a cancellation. If you must cancel your reservation, please do so as soon as possible to allow time to fill the vacancy.
South District trips:
July 12, 10:30 a.m.–1 p.m., Horseshoe Bend to Crooked Creek; July 19, 11:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., meet the guides and equipment – Horseshoe Bend; July 26, 10:30 a.m.– 1 p.m., Horseshoe Bend to Crooked Creek; Aug. 9, 9 p.m.–12 a.m., Horseshoe Bend to Crooked Creek full moon cruise; Aug. 23, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Barry’s Landing to Medicine Creek.
North District trips:
July 12, 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., meet the guides and equipment, Ok-A-Beh; July 19, 10:30 a.m.–1 p.m., Ok-A-Beh to Box Canyon; Aug. 1, 10:30 a.m.–1 p.m., Ok-A-Beh to Box Canyon; Aug. 16, 10:30 a.m.–1 p.m., Afterbay; Aug. 30, 10:30 a.m.–4 p.m., Ok-A-Beh to Black Canyon (limited to adults age 18 and older).
