Soda Butte Creek

Soda Butte Creek, which flows from the mountains near Cooke City into Yellowstone National Park, was taken off the Montana Department of Environmental Quality's Impaired Waters List, thanks to reclamation work. This photo looks downstream at the middle of the McLaren Mill and Tailings site, which has been reclaimed.

An event celebrating restoration work on Soda Butte Creek near Cooke City and to honor Tom Henderson, a reclamation specialist with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality, who helped oversee the restoration, will be held on July 18. Henderson died in 2018.

At 3 p.m. there will be tours of the McLaren Mill site. At 5:30 p.m. the Beartooth Alliance will hold a barbecue dinner at the Range Rider Lodge in Silver Gate.
