West Rosebud Lake (copy)

West Rosebud Road is one of few Forest Service Roads that is plowed in the winter. Rainbow Lake and West Rosebud Lake, pictured here surrounded by fall snow, lie just off the road. Mystic Lake is a three mile hike from the trailhead at the road's end.

New springs have surfaced around the Chicken Creek Bridge creating an ice flow over the West Rosebud Road that has made driving dangerous and prompted a closure.

The road leads to the Mystic Lake Trailhead.

The closure begins at the West Rosebud Lake Inlet parking lot and extends about one mile to the Mystic Lake Hydroelectric Power Plant at the end of the road.

The closest public parking is at the West Rosebud Lake parking area. Do not park on the road or block the Chicken Creek Bridge gate which is still needed for emergency access. The closure is expected to remain in place until warmer spring weather melts the ice flow.
