POPLAR — The body of 18-year-old Kimberly Nees of Poplar was discovered Saturday morning in the Poplar River on the southwest edge of the city, and authorities said she apparently had been beaten to death.
Roosevelt County Sheriff Don Carpenter said an autopsy conducted by a Great Falls pathologist indicated the girl died of multiple blows to the head.
He said no arrests had been made.
Carpenter said a pickup truck belonging to the young woman was found Saturday morning by Fort Peck Indian Reservation law officers, who then discovered traces of blood near the vehicle.
The sheriff said the officers later found the body in the river.
He said city and tribal police and his office were investigating the death, and the FBI also had been notified because the incident occurred on an Indian reservation.
