Montana Public Service Commission

Justin Kraske's termination in December 2020 followed three years in which legislative auditors twice concluded that accounting errors in the commission’s finances were so pervasive that auditors couldn’t rely on the information presented.

Montana is one of the few states in the nation that elects its utility commissioners. The only job requirement is that candidates be of voting age and live in their district. Base pay is $112,444.80 plus benefits.

Montana’s 406 area code is rapidly running out of room for new numbers and the state’s Public Service Commission has asked the Federal Communications Commission for an extension on adding a second area code to Big Sky Country.
