To mark The Billings Gazette's 125th anniversary, we look back at news on this date from earlier editions of The Gazette and the frontier publications that merged to form the newspaper.
On April 7:
In 1911: "A big contingent of stockmen of South Omaha will remain here (for a day) while en route to the stockgrowers meeting at Miles City ... one of the big events of the season and is always attended by hundreds of stockgrowers, packers and citizens."
In 1936: "The Montana Bar Association will celebrate its golden jubilee in Bozeman August 14 and 15. ... Since the first annual meeting on Jan. 6, 1886, the membership had increased from 25 to about 400."
In 1986: "Low snowpack in Yellowstone National Park means the park's roads will be opened much ahead of schedule. ... Weather permitting, the Park Service crews will begin plowing the Beartooth Highway next week."
