MISSOULA -- Missoula Sentinel three-sport standout Ben Roberts has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Washington State.

Roberts, a center fielder, batted .425 with 16 home runs, 76 RBIs, 19 triples and 27 stolen bases last summer in helping the Missoula Mavericks to a 66-11 record and their first State AA Legion baseball title since 1998.

In football, the 6-foot-4, 200-pounder set the state's all-time single-season receptions record with 108 catches this fall. That broke the previous mark of 88 receptions set by Great Falls CMR's Jeff McElroy in 1990. Roberts finished his high school career as the state's all-time leader in catches (245), receiving yards (3,298) and touchdown catches (31).

In basketball, Roberts has been a three-year starter for Sentinel. He averaged 15 points and nine rebounds per game last year as a junior.

Roberts plans to play Legion baseball this summer before heading to WSU.
