MINNEAPOLIS — The Laurel Dodgers split a pair of games on Sunday at the Gopher Classic American Legion baseball tournament here, finishing tourney play and ending up 3-2 in their bracket.
The Dodgers posted a 6-4 win over the Saskatoon Diamondbacks of Canada in their first game. Keagan Campbell batted 2-3 with two RBIs and Cash Golden was 1-2 with two runs. Carson West earned the win on the hill, tossing 5.2 innings. West allowed five hits, two earned runs and issued five walks to go with five strikeouts. The Dodgers defense backed West and relievers Kade McIlvain and Deklan Harper by playing error-free baseball.
In the Dodgers' second game, New Ulm Gold, Minnesota, scored three runs in the final two innings, including the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to break a tie, in a 4-3 victory over Laurel.
On the final play of the contest, Josh Seidl singled to drive in a run for New Ulm. Andrew Peters pitched the full seven innings to earn the win, allowing six hits and striking out nine.
Cash Golden was the hard-luck loser. Golden also notched a complete game and gave up only two earned runs and eight hits over 6.1 innings.
West batted 2-2 with a run and RBI and Harper was 2-4 with two runs.
