RAPID CITY, S.D. -- The Billings Scarlets dropped both ends of an American Legion baseball doubleheader Saturday against Post No. 22 of Rapid City, S.D.
The Scarlets lost 3-1 and 10-6 in what were their first two games of the 2013 season.
Brayden Wickam had Billings’ only RBI in the opener, which came in the second inning and gave the team the early lead. But Rapid City pushed two runs across in the third to take the lead against pitcher Michael Merchant and held on.
Shelby Zorn doubled and drove in a pair of runs for the Scarlets in the second game. Ian Byorth had a triple and an RBI for Billings. But Post No. 22’s Matt Minnick and Jake Ferdinand combined to drive in six runs to help beat the Scarlets.
