HELENA -- Michael Merchant threw a two-hitter to lead the Billings Scarlets past the Helena Senators in the first game of an American Legion baseball twin bill here on Sunday.

Jake McGovern scored the winning run in the sixth inning on an error when after Caje Golden singled to left the ball skipped past the fielder.

In the second game, the Scarlets (12-4, 3-0) won a slug fest, 15-11. Jayson Leinwand went 2 for 3 at the plate and drove in three.

The Scarlets next action is at a tourney in Seattle Wednesday through Sunday.
