GREAT FALLS – Leandro Santana hit a grand slam as part of a three-hit, seven-RBI day, and the Billings Mustangs trounced the Great Falls Voyagers 19-2 Sunday in the Pioneer League.
The Mustangs had 22 hits. Andy Suglio led the way with four hits, and Santana, Jeter Downs and Miles Gordon all had three. The runs, hits and 18 RBIs were all season-highs for Billings (13-8). Downs extended his hitting streak to eight games, while Alejo Lopez hit safely in his seventh straight game.
Billings scored five times in the first inning before the Mustangs put the game way out of reach with four runs in the fifth, five in the sixth, three in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
Aaron Quillen (1-0), the third Mustangs pitcher, was credited with the win for allowing one unearned run in two innings. Starter Mac Sceroler allowed one run in four innings.
Santana added a triple and a single to his hit total. The Mustangs hit four doubles.
The teams wrap up their three-game series Monday night before the Mustangs have their first off day of the season on Tuesday.
