EKALAKA - Travis Bertelsen accounted for more than 400 all-purpose yards, scored six touchdowns and made 20 tackles to lead Wibaux to a 42-26 win over Ekalaka in the first round of the Class C football playoffs.

Bertelsen, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound senior, set the tone for the Longhorns when he returned the opening kickoff 73 yards for a touchdown. He added touchdown runs of 76, 35 and 15 yards and caught TD passes of 65 and 8 yards from Jaylen Sokoloski.

For the game, Bertelsen ran the ball 17 times for 202 yards, caught three passes for 98 yards and had 113 return yards. He also had 18 solo tackles and five assisted tackles.

Ekalaka quarterback Pat Hansen threw two touchdown passes to Ches Meyer. Hansen also returned a kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown, and Clint Mrnak scored on a 3-yard run.

Hansen finished with 105 yards rushing and 162 yards passing.

Wibaux (7-1) will play at No. 1-ranked Centerville (9-0) in next Saturday's quarterfinals.

Scobey 60, Culbertson-Bainville 14

SCOBEY - Michael Crandell and the Scobey Spartans are moving on to the second round of the Class C football playoffs.

Crandell accounted for three scores and five conversions as Scobey topped Culbertson-Bainville 60-14 on Saturday.

Culbertson took an early 14-8 lead - answering Scobey's opening score - but the Spartans then rattled off 52 unanswered points in the final three quarters.

Seven different Spartans scored touchdowns, including Calvin Odom who opened the day with a 41-yard run. Dylan Solberg put an emphatic end to the day with a 12-yard interception return.

Absarokee 52, Harlowton-Ryegate 14

ABSAROKEE - Jeff Royce rushed for 100 yards and threw for another 142 while accounting for five total touchdowns in Absarokee's 52-14 first-round win over Harlowton.

The Huskies held a slim 18-14 lead going into the fourth quarter but blew the game wide open with a 34-point effort in the final frame - spurried in part by two big defensive plays.

"We get an interception for a return and then recover a fumble in the end zone and it kind of went from there," said Absarokee coach Warren Boeck. "Our defense really stepped up and made a close game not so close. Harlowton battled. They showed up to play today."

Drew Galahan led Harlowton's offense with 137 yards on the ground - including a 55-yard touchdown scamper in the second.

Absarokee will travel to Superior for a quarterfinal game next Saturday.

DENTON - Damon Heble accounted for 250 yards in total offense as Denton defeated Joliet 51-26 Saturday in the first round of the Class C football playoffs.

Heble rushed for 139 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns and added 111 yards receiving on just three catches. He caught touchdown passes of 30 and 58 yards from Denton quarterback Jordan Lahr. Heble also kicked a 50-yard field goal.

Denton led 45-6 at halftime.

The Trojan defense registered seven quarterback sacks and had two interceptions.

CHINOOK - A big effort from the Chinook defense went a long way in a 39-0 blanking of Sunburst in Saturday's first round Class C action.

Chinook forced nine Sunburst turnovers and and quarterback Tyler Molyneaux accounted for three touchdowns through the air. Greg Qualls ran for two scores and returned a punt 65 yards for another.

Chinook will travel to Scobey for a quarterfinal matchup on Saturday.

TWIN BRIDGES - Twin Bridges scored on its first five possessions in a 49-14 win over Victor in a Class C first-round football playoff game Saturday.

Clark Vial ran the ball 17 times for 119 yards for the winners, who will travel to Denton Saturday for a 1 p.m. meeting with the Trojans.

Twin Bridges quarterback Jake Schmit completed 4 of 4 passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns.

Victor quarterback Gatlin Lamb was 15-for-26 with one interception for 177 yards and a touchdown.

SUPERIOR - Senior Drew Walen rushed for 128 yards and five touchdowns in guiding No. 3 Superior past Charlo in the first round of the Class C football playoffs on Saturday.

Walen scored on runs of 2, 1, 6, 2 and 18 yards as Superior cruised to its ninth consecutive win of the season. The Bobcats host Absarokee in next week's quarterfinal round.

Walen rushed the ball 22 times, including 15 attempts in the second half, when Supeior outscored the Vikings 34-12. Walen also tallied a team-high 16 tackles.

Senior quarterback Travis Stroot started off slow, missing his first 10 passes, but finished with 226 yards and two scores. He hit Tyler Stenberg on both TD strikes.

Sophomore Chico Stipe piled up 125 yards and had a rushing touchdown and one receiving for Charlo, which ended its season at 5-4.

SAND COULEE - Sam Rutherford rushed for 100 yards on 19 carries as top-ranked Centerville beat Belt 50-14 in the first round of the Class C football playoffs.

Centerville quarterback Jared Mayernik was 5-for-10 for 122 yards and three touchdowns with three interceptions.

Centerville (9-0) will host Wibaux in next week's quarterfinal round.
