BUTTE — The Butte Miners are a member of the Class A South District in American Legion baseball this season.

A recent story in the Montana Standard cited a lack of success at the Class AA level and a high school enrollment pool well below Montana's other AA programs as the reasons the Miners are now playing Class A baseball instead of AA.

According to the story in The Standard, there is no timetable on when, or if, Butte might once again play at the Class AA level.

Butte finished last with a 3-19 conference record last year.

This year there are nine teams in the Montana-Alberta ranks playing at the Class AA level. They are the defending state champ Billings Royals, Billings Scarlets, Bozeman Bucks, Great Falls Chargers, Helena Senators, Medicine Hat Monarchs, Lethbridge Elks, Missoula Mavericks and Kalispell Lakers. Each will play a 24-game conference schedule. Eight of the teams will qualify for the State AA tournament. The Royals are the host team for the State AA tournament July 27-31 at Dehler Park.
