HELENA - When No. 1 Carroll College hosts No. 14 Dickinson State on Saturday in the first round of the NAIA playoffs, they'll be led by arguably the top two small-college football coaches in the country.
The coach of the North Dakota school, Hank Biesiot enters as the winningest active coach in NAIA history with 235 wins and 88 losses.
Carroll, the defending national champion, is coached by Mike Van Diest, the winningest coach by percentage. He's won 86.5 percent of his games with a 115-18 record, and five national titles.
Those records, compiled by NAIA sports information director Chad Waller, are for coaches who have been with their program more than five years.
Biesiot has coached the Dickinson Blue Hawks for more than 30 years, while Van Diest is in his tenth year as coach at Carroll.
