EUGENE, Ore. -- Notre Dame’s Alexa Aragon, a former Billings Senior standout, qualified for the finals of the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase Wednesday at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.
Aragon placed fifth in her heat with a time of 9:59.67, and will compete in the finals on Friday.
Elsewhere, Montana State’s Jeff Mohl forged ahead in the first five events of the two-day men’s decathlon. Mohl, of Red Lodge, opened with a sixth-place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 10.86, then took 12th in the long jump and 21st in the shot put.
Mohl took eighth in the high jump at feet, 7½ inches, and closed the day with a 49.59 clocking in the 400, good for fifth place. Mohl’s one-day total was 3,994 points, which puts him in 10th place at the halfway point.
Mohl’s MSU teammate Grant Grosvenor saw his season come to an end by placing fifth in his heat and 20th overall in the prelims of the men’s 400 meters.
Colorado State’s Jessica Sharbono, formerly of Billings West, will compete in the discus on Thursday. Montana’s Lindsey Hall and MSU’s Carley McCutchen begin the women’s heptathlon on Thursday.
