BOZEMAN -- Montana State football coach Rob Ash named Brandon North as secondary coach on Wednesday.

North comes to MSU from Stephen F. Austin, where he coached safeties the past four seasons. North was a part of the SFA coaching staff that guided the Lumberjacks to consecutive Southland Conference championships in 2009 and '10.

North earned all-conference honors as a defensive back at SFA, finishing his career with more than 200 tackles.

"I'm excited about Brandon joining our staff," Ash said. "He has coached and played successfully at this level. He's a little bit older so he brings some maturity. Our players really liked him on his visit here.

"Plus, he has the Texas connection. He's from there, so hopefully he'll help us maintain our recruiting pipeline to that state."

North joins the Bobcat staff immediately in preparation for spring drills, scheduled to begin March 23.
