MISSOULA — Special teams players rarely get their moment in the sun, but Montana placekicker Brandon Purdy earned an honorable mention spot in Hero Sports' Sophomore All-America team.

Purdy, a Kalispell Glacier product, ranks No. 3 in the FCS (and first in the Big Sky) in field goal percentage (88.2 percent) after making 15 of 17 field goals this season. He also averaged 1.36 field goals per game — ranking seventh in the FCS (and first in the Big Sky).

His longest field goal on the year was a 47-yarder against Northern Colorado and he ended the season on a streak of making nine straight.

He also connected on 44 of 47 extra point attempts. 

Purdy's teammate, quarterback Gresch Jensen was named to the Hero Sports' Freshman All-America team as well

These Big Sky Conference sophomores made the first team: Northern Arizona quarterback Case Cookus, UC Davis quarterback Jake Maier, Southern Utah offensive lineman Zach Larsen, UC Davis tight end Wes Preece and Montana State's Chris Murray. 

These sophomores earned honorable mention nods: Idaho State defensive back Adkin Aguirre, Eastern Washington running back Antoine Custer, Portland State tight end Charlie Taumoepeau and Weber State defensive lineman Jonah Williams.
