Red Lodge standout Tess Hellerud has given a verbal commitment to play for the University of Montana volleyball team in 2013.
Hellerud, a 6-foot front-line player, is a four-year starter for the Rams, helping them to three consecutive runner-up finishes at the Class B state tournament.
"I have never been so excited in my whole life,'' said Hellerud, a three-time Class B all-state player. "My ultimate dream has always been to play for the Griz, but I never really thought it was possible. I am so blessed to have this opportunity and I can't wait to see what I can make of it."
Hellerud set a skill video to the UM her junior year and kept in contact with the coaches. She said attended the Griz volleyball camp this past summer and received the scholarship offer from head coach Jerry Wagner.
This season, Hellerud has 201 kills (5.4 per set), along with 11.5 blocks, 94 digs and 14 aces.
A starter since she was a freshman, Hellerud has 1,359 career kills, 922 digs, 155 assists, 140 aces, 99 solo blocks and 126 block assists. She will hold many of the Red Lodge career records when her senior season ends.
