Bobby Hauck is gone. He's leaving the University of Montana to become the head coach at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. It's a move up to Divison I (real Division I, not I-AA) and a move up in salary. Hauck finally got what he wanted.
Did Griz fans?
You can't argue his results ... 80-17 ... Big Sky Conference titles ... three appearances in the national championship game. So why are some UM fans celebrating his departure?
Hauck didn't connect with a lot of the Griz nation. He wasn't approachable as Don Read or Joe Glenn. Mick Dennehy was just a good ol' boy from Butte.
And Hauck loved to toy with the local media. That won't go over in Las Vegas. He won't threaten to end a press conference if he doesn't like the line of questioning.
He wants to be in a bigger spotlight. Hauck will soon learn the glare becomes a little more intense. Maybe we'll appreciate Hauck and his success after he is gone. Football coaches aren't paid to be nice. They're paid to win.
And Hauck won. Can't argue with that.
