DILLON — University of Montana Western athletic director Mark Durham said Monday that the school is dropping men’s and women’s golf at the end of the current school year.
Durham says the tournaments are on weekdays and the students were missing too much school time. He says the school hasn’t been able to post team scores for a couple of years and it doesn’t make sense to keep spending money on the sport if they can’t get enough competitors to the tournaments.
In Frontier Conference golf, each team has five members and counts four of the scores per round.
Durham said the school still plans to help members of this year’s golf team to graduate from Western.
