FORSYTH — It was a triumphant homecoming for Montana State-Northern wrestlers Brandon and Matt Weber on Thursday night at the Forsyth High School gym.
The two Lights seniors both won their matches and Northern won eight of 10 bouts on its way to a 31-9 victory over NCAA Division-II Minot State.
Performing in front of a large crowd, Matt Weber scored a 13-7 decision over Jered Sublet at 141 pounds. Brandon Weber added a 15-0 technical fall victory over Zachary Berry.
The Lights, ranked third in the NAIA, improved to 8-1. Minot State fell to 0-5.
"They both performed well. Matt stepped up, but looked a bit rusty which we expected after being out for almost a month. He got the job done and we look forward to getting more matches under his belt," said Northern coach Tyson Thivierge. "Brandon looked the best I’ve seen him all year. He finished the dual in great fashion and dominated his opponent. He’s a true leader and he was obviously energized by the crowd."
Andrew Bartel (165) and Chase Short (174) won by majority decision for the Lights. Northern's Steeler French (184), Nick Kunz (125) and Landon Bailey (133) won by decision. Isaac Bartel (197) scored a pinfall for MSUN.
"The crowd was awesome, treated us like their home team and got us going by cheering loud," Thivierge said. "Each of our guys fed off that and it was a great atmosphere."
