The men’s and women’s soccer teams at Rocky Mountain College will be looking to qualify for the NAIA national championships this week by taking part in Unaffiliated Conference tournaments.
Rocky’s women (11-4-0) will be the No. 3 seed at a six-team tournament, which begins on Wednesday at Nelson Stadium in Helena and is hosted by top-seeded Carroll College. The Battlin’ Bear men (9-6) will be the No. 3 seed at a four-school tourney starting Friday in Bellevue, Neb., and hosted by top-seeded Bellevue University.
The winners of both tournaments, which will include teams from the Frontier, Dakota and Midlands Collegiate Athletic conferences, will receive automatic bids to nationals.
The RMC women are scheduled to play at noon on Wednesday against No. 6 seed York College of Nebraska (6-9-3). The other quarterfinal match will pit No. 4 Minot State (9-6-3) vs. No. 5 Westminster College (10-7-1).
No. 1 Carroll (12-3-1) and No. 2 Bellevue University (14-4) received byes into Thursday’s semifinal round.
The championship match will be played on Friday afternoon.
Rocky’s men will play second-seeded University of Great Falls (13-3-1) in the semifinals on Friday. The Bears and Argos split their two regular-season meetings.
Bellevue (12-5-1) will meet No. 4 Westminster (9-8-1) in the other semifinal match.
The two winners will play for the championship on Saturday.
