SALT LAKE CITY — The men’s basketball team at Rocky Mountain College is off to a 3-0 start this season after beating Olivet Nazarene University 72-60 Friday at the Westminster College Tipoff Classic.
The Battlin’ Bears were led by the 24 points and 12 rebounds of junior center Sergio Trocha, who also has opened the season with three straight double-doubles. Trocha shot 10 of 13 from the field.
Guards Anthony Carter and EJ Ross contributed 19 and 10 points, respectively.
“It’s exciting to get a good, solid win against a team that was at the national tournament last year,” Rocky coach Bill Dreikosen said. “The great thing about it is we can still really improve.”
The Bears, who led 35-25 at halftime, shot 43 percent for the game, compared to 33 percent for the Tigers, from Bourbonnais, Ill.
Olivet Nazarene, 1-1, was sparked by the 22 points of Cory Hainlen and the 10 rebounds of Nick Klomstad.
Rocky will play San Diego Christian at 3:30 this afternoon.
