GULF SHORES, Ala. — Isaac Petsch ran a school record time to advance to the finals of the 1,500 meters at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday.
The sophomore from Billings was third overall and second in his prelim heat with a time of 3:51.83. The previous record for Rocky was 3:52.84 by Cesar Mireles in 2012. Petsch's previous personal best was 3:55.42 earlier this year.
Petsch will compete in the 1,500 finals on Saturday afternoon.
Chance Hyatt of Carroll also advanced to the 1,500 finals with a time of 3:51.89. The junior from Bainville is seeded seventh for the finals.
The Rocky 3,200-meter relay team of Fred Petsch, Gino Giovagnoli, Shane Ketchum and Isaac Petsch finished 15th out of 25 teams with a time of 7:43.15. The top eight advance to the finals.
David Barnett of Carroll placed third in the javelin, while Mika Robinson was 10th in the pole vault.
