BILLINGS — First-place Montana State Billings pounded out 16 hits, including home runs by Wyatt Setian, Daniel Cipriano and Chris Arpan, and beat third-place Northwest Nazarene 15-11 Friday in the opening game of a Great Northwest Athletic Conference twin bill at Dehler Park.
The visiting Nighthawks bounced back to win the second game 10-8 in extra innings.
MSUB is 22-10 in GNAC play and 22-18 overall. Northwest Nazarene is 15-15 and 19-19.
The Yellowjackets used two five-run innings, and survived six errors, in pulling out the opener. Setian, Arpan and Jalen Garcia all batted 3 for 5.
Cipriano drove in three runs, two of them coming on a first-inning HR. Arpan hit a solo homer in the sixth and Setian added his solo shot in the seventh.
It was Cipriano's GNAC-leading 13th home run. Setian has 10 for the Yellowjackets.
Starter Jarrod Molnaa (5-2) struck out 12 in 6.1 innings to get the pitching win for MSUB in the nine-inning contest. He allowed eight hits and four earned runs.
In the seven-inning second game, NNU won in the eighth on pinch-hitter Ben Johnson's two-run single to right in the top half of the inning.
NNU outhit MSUB, 14-11. Parker Price led the way for the winners with a double and triple.
Garcia led the Yellowjackets by going 4 for 5 with two RBIs. One of his hits was a triple.
MSUB starter Keven Mackintosh struck out 10 in 6.1 innings.
