NAMPA, Idaho -- Three freshmen earned victories at the Northwest Nazarene Invitational for the Montana State Billings track and field program.
The winners included a pair of Billings Skyview graduates, Anica Knispel and Lewis Polkow.
Knispel won the shot put with an effort of 43-feet, 5 1/2-inches. She was 10 inches shy of the provisional qualifying mark for the national meet. Knispel also placed second in the hammer throw and fifth in the discus for the Yellowjackets.
Polkow won the 400 hurdles in 47.04 seconds.
Another freshman, Stacey Pitt of Kalispell, won the high jump at 5-5 1/4, a half inch off the provisional mark. Pitt was also second in the pole vault with a jump of 10-6.
Senior Katie Thiel, of Powell, Wyo., won the 5,000 meters in 19:26.
